Thanks for the review.
I'm sort of 'aware' of the Judge Dredd character but haven't seen any of the printed stuff. But I meant to see the Stallone / Dredd epic and always regretted that I missed it at the time it was on the big screen. That was why I planned to go see, and looked forward to this particular incarnation.
Now I'm not so sure I want to any longer after reading this, as I'm not a great fan of the fully descriptive violence you mention. I'd probably see it through to the bitter end if I go at all, but I think I'll take a rain-check on it for the moment.

Mmm. I'd hate to think I'd put someone off seeing what in the end I thought was a pretty good movie, but there's no getting away from the fact that the violence is not just uncompromising but ostentatiously graphic and detailed. Still 350% better than the Stallone/Cannon version though.
I was a little wary going in, too, as I am not a fan of violence per se either, but I think the rest of the film has a vision and identity that means the violence isn't obviously gratuitous. But probably best not to risk it if you think you're going to have issues.

You've not put me off. Quite the opposite, in fact.
I too, was skeptical of Keith Urban and how faithful it would be to a much read (by me) of Dredd himself.
Lena Headey as another villain (I'm thinking Cersei Lannister here)? Yay.
I don't often want to go and see 3D films (I hate having to wear glasses over me glasses) but I'm definitely going to see this.

I too would be highly sceptical of Keith Urban, but luckily that was just an eminently forgiveable slip I am not going to make a big deal out of...
They're really pushing the 3D angle on this film: it's barely showing in 2D anywhere. That said, the stereoscopy isn't too intrusive or irritating.
I am that person you've heard of who's never read or watched Game of Thrones, but I know Lena Headey from 300 and various TV shows.
