Seriously. I like the way you write, it's accessible. You take me there. You obviously know your facts, and yet you mention the sticky-outy bits of the church layout. And the first paragraph is funny, yet knowledgeable. It draws me in.

I got spooked also, reading this. It linked me into a personal matter.

My Dad, who died recently, left some poems he wrote during the war. He was a kid of 22, serving on the front line in Italy. There's this incredibly moving poem about the church of San Savino, which was destroyed, and how it hurt him. (He was a church man, a sensitive.)

He'd have liked to have visited the churches of Italy, later on. It would have maybe helped to heal the wound.

Well, he can't now, but I can.

First stop, Perugia. Via you. heheh. I'm a lazy traveller.

Thankyouverymuch PT.

To go to Perugia you can
1) hitch-hike which is cheap but tricky
2) train to Paris (£70ish return), train to Florence via Milan (not much), train to Perugia (very cheap). It can be done in two days easily. Just catch the funicular from the station to the hill top - I walked it in a jacket and carrying a bag and there are a lot of stairs. In fact it is so steep it is all stairs. Stay there for a week and live the life, meet the people and eat the food. Oh and the ice cream!
3) sit at home and read and imagine

Hmmm. 3 is great but 2 is amazing. Don't know much about 1 but there maybe something on it somewhere here.

Hey PT. I like the travel options, with the details. Thanks. You should write a guide. Well, you are already! I still like option 3 the best. heheh.

Can't believe you mentioned the funicular in Perugia. Another link with my Dad. How strange. He would have loved that. He came from Hastings, UK, and just loved the funicular railway there, I remember going on it.

Now I will get obsessed with funicular railways. Have you written any articles about them?

Deary me no!

I limit myself to cooking pheasant (A57720521), the use of the Roman Shield (A87709675) and computer operating systems (A306839). Although there may also be something on wine tasting in my history too (A706790 & A5872133)

Funicular railways would be diversifying a tad too.
