At the time I was the contractor representative, fitting-out one of the undersea systems on the eighth HMS Challenger, which was commissioned in 1984.
We all, like the rest of the world, gasped when the shuttle went down.
Soon afterwards, our ship was cancelled - due to RN cut-backs ...but we did wonder
