Hi Elektra and Bel! Thanks for your posts. Elektra, both of those findings appeared here in the South African newspapers as well! I love those little chameleons. Ours are much bigger (12" or more in length) but one laid eggs in our garden around when we first came to Pietersburg. The whole garden was filled with tiny babies! But even those babies were a couple of inches in lenght.

I wonder how many more such tiny chameleon species there might still be waiting to be found! I imagine *finding* them is not really easy.

Thanks for the plant article as well. The one in the newspaper made a mistake again (WHY can't journalists who report on science or nature get their facts straight???) It is NOT a new species but an old form of a present species. I know the genus Silene, I've cultivated some of our local ones myself. They are not hard to grow ... but still, getting a 30 000 year old seed to grow is something! I do hope they can get some good seed banks going to preserve as many of the species that we still have as possible ...

I wasn't quite sure how they made it grow Willem, but it wasn't from the seed itself, rather some part of the plant. Not having taken botany I wasn't sure what part of the plant --presumably one of the sexual structures.

You're right! I missed that. It seems it was tissue from the fruit ... they say 'placenta' but I don't know how that works in a plant either!
