What you need is a translation for some of the phrases the popular press uses. The following translations are based on the experience of my voluntary job.
'Benefit scrounger' - a man who's lost his job and can't pay his mortgage;
'ignorant gypsy' - a woman who works hard to bring up her children in a caravan;
'lazy immigrant' -a self-employed Italian builder whose business is struggling;
'crazy woman' - a woman with severe depression who needs help managing.
Look beyond the words to the person.
