Gnomon - time to move on

Thanks for this, Iago. We need quality updates like this, as well as entries on new topics.

Don't worry about the spellings etc. We can sort those out later.

I'm working on one for personal statements and I'll look at doing one for writing the teachers reference as well, cover all the bases.

Hey Thanks big time Honest Iago, that is really impressive to do it so quickly.

a few suggestions:

Could you add the original author in the appropriate place in the edit pane? You will be shown as 'edited by'

smiley - biro UCAS used to publish The Big UCAS Book which contains more information than you could ever need3 but this information is all available online now.

Being pedantic, I would put a semi-colon after the footnote closing bracket and remove the word [but]

Footnote 4 isn't showing when you hover over it, but appears in the notes at the bottom? I'll check it if you like.

smiley - biro Avoid the clichés, don’t be repetitive and make it easy for them to like you.

I like this advice, I think it could be more strongly worded though eg

>>>Avoid the clichés, don’t be repetitive, you should aim to make it easy for them to like you.

smiley - biro You put here anything you can think of that makes you sound interesting,

>>>You should include anything you can think of that makes you sound interesting,

smiley - biro plagiarism will be highlighted for teachers instantly

do you mean highlighted by the teachers?

smiley - biro after they have finished putting the comment on it8.

>>> after they have finished putting in their comments8.

smiley - biro where you track and respond to offers It usually takes a few weeks

missing full stop

smiley - biro Always offered when you apply to Oxbridge, in other universities, it depends on the course.

>>> Always offered when you apply to Oxbridge; in other universities it depends on the course.

smiley - biro telling you which university you have gotten into if you qualified for one of your choices

>>> telling you which university you have been accepted at, if you qualified for one of your choices

They are all just nitpicks, nothing major. (you should see the nitpicks I get when I write anything myself) smiley - blush

All done.

The plagiarism is picked up by automated software and is highlighted on the teachers screen.

Both the first two sentences include . Could you change one or the other to something like

First steps section: <> simples --> simple

Footnote 3: But did make an extremely *useful* doorstop due to the size of it.

btw, all footnotes need a fullstop at the end and all dates should be in the form 15 January rather than January 15th

Z

So can you now apply to Oxford and Cambridge?

I thought the reason to apply for only one two spot ambitious swots applying to both, and thus doubling the workload for both universities.

(Conflict of interest, Oxbridge reject).

Is this completed? smiley - smiley

I don't like to see good things being overlooked, once they are finalised. However, being an 'Update' it won't need to be selected by a Scout, so as soon as we are agreed, it can be removed from PR and onto the next stage.

Looks good, I personally would comment about IB, given the enormous numbers that now sit it, but if you mention another course, then it starts a where will it end

Dumb question but remove as in it's finished and ready for the FP, or remove because I need to work on it more.

The Entry that is on the Front Page is a sister Entry to this: Writing the Perfect UCAS Personal Statement.

This one is finished as far as I can see, but as it is an Update, it needs to be treated differently.

We'll keep you posted HI. I don't want to see this excellent Entry being neglected.

Your Guide Entry has just been picked from Peer Review by one of our Scouts, and is now heading off into the Editorial Process, which ends with publication in the Edited Guide. We've therefore moved this Review Conversation out of Peer Review and to the entry itself.

If you'd like to know what happens now, check out the page on 'What Happens after your Entry has been Recommended?' at EditedGuide-Process. We hope this explains everything.

Thanks for contributing to the Edited Guide!
