Is that the hole on the upper left side? It looks as if it was an injury rather than a deliberate trephine site or maybe it was an unsuccesful trehpine site. I suggest that as theres no evidence of healing such as new bone. If its an injury likely to be something narrow such as a pointed implement, dagger perhaps - or even a projectile like a bullet. Any other signs of injury? Wheres Time Team when you need them?

Ooh, great questions. We'll have to ask our forensic expert when she shows up.
I think, from what Mala said, that the chance of its being a bullet is slight. Barring an accident with a gunslinger and a time machine...
I still want the Law & Order people to get a time machine, as described in my treatment for the time-travel forensice series 'Ice Cold Killers', A68620827.

Thanks, I guess if its really ancient we might have a slinghot wound instead of a bullet like in David and Goliath)

Essentially. It's in the geography, archaeology, and palaeoecology (what a word!) department, but is more or less conservation of historic monuments and natural and cultural landscapes. Good fun, anyway.
