Oh my dears you outdo yourselves with your kindness and considerations. It is most encouraging to know that you treat your contributors and staff so well, so kindly, so graciously so thoughtfully. These are rare qualities in our sad old world and they need to be acknowledged loudly and often. Praised be and blessed be the Posties.

It is inspirational to know that my works are well received and preserved for posterity. I am particularly smiley - biggrin pleased with your very creative heading "concerning..." and the way you have identified the pieces.

A heartfelt smiley - cheers
and a sincere thank you,
~jwf~

Well that's a relief. Rumours of your prolonged absence and ill health had almost brought me to making specific inquiries. One does hate to get all serious and worry. It ruffles the fur quite nastily.

While I have your attention, assuming you are still on your feet so to speak, I have two points:

Your absence in the Quiz area resulted in some attempts by the usual suspects to carry on for a few days, but your own most recent thread (Nov 15th) was where someone had just posted (2 days ago) about reports of ill health... The more recent threads started by others have, as always, faded away. My point being that YOU should create 'another new quiz' working on principles similar to the 'new day in the quiz that is' so that in your absence, a true h2g2IQ thread will carry on, perhaps with each winner posting the next question. Call it 'while the cats away the mice can play' or some such.
My 'new day' quiz has survived over 4000 postings and gone thru many phases of interest and groups of participants. But if YOU were to start one it would likely stay more 'on topic' and be friendlier to your regulars who find the 'new day' a bit too chaotic, zany and surreal. Your recent absence did not bring any increase of participation to our 'new day' thread. Your regulars have tried us before and are not satisfied. We carry on with our own somewhat different agenda and the 'new day' seems to have a life of its own. But there is definitely a need for some other substitute in your own h2g2IQ style.

And secondly: in the archive list above "The Spanish Has a Submarine" strikes me as grammatically incorrect. Should it not be 'The Spanish HAVE a Submarine'? Or perhaps the word 'Navy' was supposed to appear after the word 'Spanish...' but took a dive into the murky depths and has ne'er been seen no mo'.

Hope you is well.
And able to enjoy a smiley - donut and smiley - tea.
peace
jwf
