Caerwynn: Reading your description of your trip, I got to relive my fall vacation myself. My husband and I spent a week in Vermont early in October. We were lucky to hit the leaves at their peak, as it usually comes earlier than that. I agree with you that it was something to behold! I grew up in the southern U.S. (Florida), where the leaves would fall off in December only to reappear in February. Not a spectacular show, as you can imagine. I live in Virginia near Washington, D.C., now, which provides lovely autumn color but still nothing approaching the gorgeous spectacle of New England.

I hope the experience made you appreciate the charms of autumn more. It is my favorite time of year, but then I'm one of those odd folks who get depressed in the summer instead of the winter. (I'm sure it has to do with spending my childhood in a place where it was steamy sticky-hot at least six months out of the year. By the time I moved away I never wanted to sweat again!)

I also hope you managed to get away with some of Vermont's fabulous maple syrup!

Cheers,
Big Red

Thanks for the post, yes I did bring home some maple syrup. But we can get it here, as there is quite a large American community locally and our supermarket stocks it. However it isn't quite the same as buying it from Mom and Pop!

I'm still sifting through the photos we took and haven't even attempted to edit the dv film yet.

To think we may have overlapped in Vermont, I think it was my favourite area, the people were so nice. We stayed at a smallish hotel on Mt Killington.

I shall appreciate autumn more here in future and will make more of an effort to admire the colours. I shall also try to plant more autumn colour plants in the garden too next year.
