Kat - From H2G2

Hey there and welcome to H2G2. Hopefully you've managed to find your way around a bit by now, but if you haven't or you have any questions then feel free to ask, we don't bite smiley - winkeye

A good place to always find something going on is <./>Askh2g2</.>

If you have a burning question about how to make a mobile from coat hangers or your computer has exploded then people will help you at <./>HowDoI</.>

<./>ThePost</.> is always a good place to check out. This is the H2G2 online newspaper and it comes out every week, full of tidbits.

If you want to brighten up your Personal Space or plan to write entries then look in the <./>GuideML-Clinic</.> will be a good idea. Guide-ML is the code used to write pages on H2G2, it operates a lot like HTML.

If your ambition is to write for the Edited Guide, which is the main data base of factual entries then don't forget to read Writing-Guidelines and perhaps hang around in PeerReview for a while. The <./>FrontPage</.> features three new Edited Guide entries a weekday and is a great place to get some idea of what's going on on H2G2 and what sort of thing you can write about.

If it's fiction and opinion that you thrive on however, take a look at the things in Writing-Alternative.

Need to know about anything? Sausages? Forks? Buying a cat box? The search function in the top right hand corner (under the general BBC search box) is the thing to use.

Hope that's given you some things to look at for the minute. Any questions, ponders, requests...get back smiley - ok

Kat

To be honest so far have found the modules on Learn Direct mind-melting easy (how to open a document in wordpad? smiley - erm) but I have not yet sat an exam in the subject which I imagine will be harder and I've not yet started any of the modules of the applications which I imagine will be more taxing since I am less familair with Excell and have never used either Powerpoint or Access..

It is a thorough course, but pitched at at level that is in inclusive of absolute beginner and more advanced user and I apprecaite that. (I had forgotten some of the finer distinctions of removal writable memory for instance) even if most of the time I find myself itching to get through the online modules so I can sit the assessements and submit my assigments. smiley - winkeye (100/100 so far! smiley - biggrin)

Next comes the exams at the local college and that will be...interesting.

Am told by the tutor not to be fooled by the easy on-line assessments so sitting the modules will be interesting.I am a beginner but 1&2 do seem suspiciously easy further on in the course book looks a bit more scarey. They say that you have to be precise in their terminology or they mark you down,65% is the pass mark so there is room for errorsmiley - smiley.

thats about what I was expecting.

I've noted that some of the assesment question differ from the online modules in that they ask you things not specifically covered but that are more deducable from what has already been covered in the course.

I expect the exams are going to be along the lines of: produce this document with this content formatted like this and saved in this place in x many minutes. probably.

The terminology thing is going to be a bit of a bind. smiley - erm

That seems to be what I am expecting but smiley - yikes the passmark gives us a bit of space to get a few things wrong ,not sure how much time they give to answer each modules though. Some people are doing the modules out of sequence like 1&4 but different strokes for different folks I guess.I would find that a bit confusingsmiley - erm
