A Conversation for I'm New - What Do I Do Now?

I would like to get information about authors in the UK, I like very much Luterature but I'm not an expert in British Lit. Am I in the right place to ask about it? I`ll get there in September for an MBA and I have no idea of Contemporary Literature. I 'd like to know something before my arrival.

Needless to say most researchers here will mention Douglas Adams but we like others as well.
