Holidays The summer is drawing to a close in the western hemisphere – at least that's how it feels where I live. The leaves of the trees are going yellow, the birds are leaving the country, and the early mornings are decidedly cool. I've seen at least three mentions of 'Christmas' online, but so far, I haven't seen any Christmas goodies in the shops. It can only be a matter of days, though. Despite recent heat waves and the fact that a lot of our readers and contributors probably were away on their summer hols, we at the Post Office have slaved away to provide you with a brand new issue each week. We had decided not to have a break if we don't *have* to, but we may well take a break during transition to the new servers – whenever that will be. We'll all need to find our feet in the new surroundings; readers, contributors and Post staff as well. Hurricane 'Irene' has caused huge damage in its path along the Antilles, central America and the Caribbean and the east coast of the United states, however, the loss of lives so far has fortunately been low, so let's hope it will run its course without causing any more fatalities. I did worry about my friends in the affected areas, but Dmitri assured me that he and Elektra were well and even had electricity, and so it was 'business as usual' (even though we'd normally have been on our summer break, so it's not exactly business as usual after all), and as some submissions had found their way into the Post inbox, we got them prepared; so please enjoy this issue of the Post. |
