What exactly is (sic)?
I found the reporter much less likable than in the book, so didn't care that much. And his best moment was cut out.
Also the deformity angle was played down, his speech was pretty normal and we didn't really get to see how bad it had been before the surgery.

Haven't read the book. Must try and get hold of Spea's copy.
(sic) means... well, when you reprint a letter or something without bothering to fix the dodgy original spelling, you put (sic) after it to indicate the mistake is not yours but that of the person whose work you're reproducing. And in this case Michael Mann changed Lecter's name to Lecktor in the movie of Manhunter.
Clear as mud, I know...

In other words I could write (sic) at the end of every Post article and not bother to do any editing!

It would mean writing (sic) at the end of every article.
If anyone cares, "sic" is a Latin word, generally translated "thus".

Catwoman Posted Oct 17, 2002
Thus?
Fine.
Dodgy spelling aside, he did seem younger, rather than older. Well done.

~Greebo edges over~
Is there any doughnuts in that bait?
Greebs..xx

Awix Posted Oct 18, 2002
Yup, I thought I'd bait both of you. Sic (that's a joke, right, cos i'm using it in the plus of 'thus', do you see?) there are s for Greebo and for Shazz there are... um... I don't know, clogs or something.
Holland has a bit of an image problem, hasn't it? I mean, you think Holland and the things what come to mind are clogs, windmills, funny fags, hard core porno, tulips, and MC Mikey and DJ Sven's cover of Holiday. And what's Holland's aka? 'The Low Countries.'
But I digress.

Catwoman Posted Oct 18, 2002
If Greebo gets s I get , is that understood?
(for you explaining your jokes in a patronising manner, if there's no other reason)
Have just seen 'A Beautiful Mind' and been very upset that the roommate wasn't real.

Yup - that about sums up Holland - along with Golden Earring and the LPF bringing down the government with its squabbling.
On the plus side you can go out at later than 10pm and really have a good time until the early hours of the morning... with breakfast thrown in!
And... you forgot the pushbikes!!!

And the cheese, come to that.
I didn't go and see Beautiful Mind, for the simple reason that in real life Nash became a huge Dr Who fan (at the height of his schizophrenia, admittedly). But does the film even mention this? No! It's hard enough being a Dr Who fan these days without major Hollywood studios denying you even exist. So I boycotted it in protest.

(sic) - What one becomes when not offered enough doughnuts..
You can take your dog with you most places in Holland... so someone once told me...
Just thought that was relevant information... though possibly not...
Greebs..xx

Awix Posted Oct 19, 2002
Knowing the Dutch, I suspect the list of places and things they *don't* go/do with their dogs would be shorter.
Greebo T Cat walking a dog? If only That's Life or Nationwide was still running! It'd be a shoo-in!

Beautiful Mind just wasn't worth the film it was shown on - and certainly not worth Russell Crowe - who's a very good actor IMO.
(sic)
Awix Posted Oct 20, 2002
I don't think I've ever seen Russell Crowe in what I'd call a good film (wasn't too impressed with Gladiator) so I'm yet to be convinced either way about his acting ability.

Swiv (decrepit postgrad) Posted Oct 20, 2002
eh?
Awix did you see The Insider? He was very good in that.

Awix bites
No, missed that one. That's the one about baccy, isn't it? Directed by Michael Mann (bringing us rather neatly back on-topic).
