OK - so Bel, Z and TC will be in Frankfurt for a few hours on Saturday. I'm looking forward to Z explaining all the new hootoo stuff and hope we find a nice place for lunch.
I can arrive at 9.08, 9.53, 10.08 or variations on that theme from then on in. I'd like to leave at about 6pm. Have no other commitments that day now.

Brilliant.
I'll give the link to Z so he can tell us his ideas.
Maybe we can get a trip on the Ebbelwoi Express A9913548 (I'll have to check).
Other/additional options are:
Goethe Haus
Paulskirche
Dom
Boat tour on the Main

I'm very very easy. I also like museums, cathedrals and old buildings..
Which reminds me I must tell Lufthansa I'm vegatarian and see what food they manage to produce for me.. ()

My first choice: Ebbelwoi Express
I know nothing about Goethe . German literature is one of those fields that seems so huge that I haven't even dared to nibble the edge. Am saving it up for my retirement. This doesn't mean that I wouldn't be interested in the Goethehaus. What exactly can you see there? Just his pen and notebook and snuffbox or some really interesting stuff about who he knew and collaborated with, and some photos (?!) of his trip to Italy?
Actually, the zoo might really be a good idea. I don't think I've been to the zoo in Frankfurt since I had kids. Arguments for: You can walk around undisturbed by traffic, and stop for coffees and snacks and stay as long as you like and everyone's interested in animals. We spent a day in Kew gardens all together (more than once, if I remember) and everyone found something to interest them and plants don't even move!

I've never been to the Goethehaus. I'd post a complete link, but it would be removed by the mods as it is a German website, so you'll have to c&p.

If we go to the zoo, we could take the Ebbelwei Express from there and either do the full tour (which would bring us back to the zoo), or leave somewhere in the city centre.
I haven't been to the zoo since my kids were small, so I have no idea whether it's worthwhile. If the weather is good, it will probably be crowded, though.

Oh, and depending on the time of day, I've got
a small bag of seeds
A cheese sandwich
a cake
on Lufthansa flights.

Which train should I take, then? I should get my ticket tomorrow because there won't be time on Saturday morning. Is around 10 am too early? When is Z arriving?

Z arrives on Friday afternoon. But his body clock will be an hour later than hours, so I'm not sure getting up at 8am our time won't be a bit early. Then again, he is probably used to getting up early.
I hope he reads this and can advise you on whether ten or 11 would be better. If you haven't heard until tomorrow, go for ten o'clock.

Hi, I do indeed arrive on Friday afternoon, nad I'm usually good with early times. I'm afraid I've got to make a phone call at 9.30 on Saturday morning UK time, and I"m not sure how long that will last.

Just checked in on Lufhansa, they have kindly addressed me as Herr Doktor Z, which was odd, but amusing.

TC, you could come at ten, then catch the underground and come here.
I'll email you.

As you will have seen by now, I have decided to come a bit earlier. Knowing me though, I may need the extra hour to find my way across Frankfurt!

I've written up a summary of our meet yesterday (see the entry to this thread). I'll put a version in my own journal, too.
Hope you had great fun at the barbecue. I expect Z will be on his way to Mannheim by now. I've been watching a bit of Iron Man on hr3. We were lucky with the weather yesterday!

I think Z should have arrived at his hotel by now.
It was a fabulous day, and we were *very* lucky with the fine weather. It poured in the evening, so the BBQ was rich in water (not really, but the men had to have umbrellas).
