I realise this is incomplete, so if anyone can help with any tid-bits, it would be much appreciated!

I hope that this will be destined for the Edited Guide eventually - I was surprised to find no other big entries on the Star Wars phenomenon.
Although, you should bear in mind that A142228 and A847497 are in the Edited Guide - so try and avoid any overlap.
A couple of tips: Your layout is a mite cluttered. It is very useful (and _amzingly_ easy) to learn GuideML, to give your article that polished look. Check out A187229 for some quick lessons.
Given that this entry isn't finished, it should really be in Collaborative Writing Workshop, but as Writing Workshop isn't too cluttered these days, I doubt many people will complain!
I won't add any gems of my own right now, as I'm sure this thread will be full of people wanting to contribute before long. If anyone does contribute a lot (like the full plot of a film), make sure you credit them as co-authors (add their U-number to the box at the bottom of the Edit screen).
Good luck, and keep writing

There is only one thing worse than being Gosho, and that is not being Gosho Posted Oct 12, 2002
I heard that there were to be seven films, not six. Can anyone else confirm or deny that?
I'm keen to see how this entry progresses, and like you Master B, surprised that there's no definitive Star Wars entry in the EG yet.
Strictly speaking, the entry should be in the CWW if the author wants other researchers to contribute to it. It wouldn't be too difficult to remove it from this forum and re-submit it there

If I'm going into 'anal Star Wars ' mode (and this is frankly not the best time or place ), the original Star Wars was planned by George Lucas to be film 4 of 9. So you still have a full trilogy to wait for, you lucky people.

Whilst George "the beard" Lucas has strenously denied that the Star Wars saga will eventually be in 9 parts, he has admitted that was the intention. Master B, I have added your name to the Researcher list and updated the entry slighty with Guide ML (thanx Mr B and a bit on Episode III.
More soon!

Sounds interesting but doesn't seem to be very informative provided by the author here.

the gml looks good,
one advantage of those headers is that you can see how well balanced the various sections are.
you must realise that you've only got halfway through Empire Strikes Back...
if you're interested in gml, here's a handy tip that let's you broaden your pallet, as it were, - A187229
and also, from my U-space:
"Anyone who is planning to use formatting in an h2g2 entry could save themselves time and hassle by using GuidePost. It's an MS-style programme that makes everything point'n'click simple, generously provided by h2g2's own MaW."
see you on the front page

Because each film is so extensive, it's taking me a while to write them up. In each sitting I generally get around a third of a film completed. .

Get more motivated!
As well as the plots of the films, I think it would be a good idea to have a 'Background' section on the films' impact, the groundbreaking special effects etc.
In fact, as you've been kind enough to co-credit me already, I'll nip away and write one, shall I?

Feel free! I co-credited you for the information on the 9-part trilogy, which up until now I had completely forgotten about. :S. Any help on the background stuff (I have already started on this with info on ILM) would be much appreciated :D

Mu Beta Posted Oct 13, 2002
Well, it doesn't seem like a lot of information to be credited for, so now I feel morally obliged to contribute a bit more or take my name off
And who'd want their name taken off a _Star Wars_ entry, anyway?
One thing that did spring to mind - the existing Star Wars entry, which is old and poorly written, would be best utilised by merging with this entry (the Editors' job) - this is something you should suggest when this is ready to go to Peer Review.

That does seem a pretty good idea as the other entry does look like its been up for a while now and needs either updating or merging, as you suggested.
Also, I have further updated my entry with the start of Return of the Jedi and Phantom Menance.
I think that this entry is becoming too long, can anyone reccomend any areas where it can be cut down? I've noticed somebody said it wasn't very informative... any specfic areas, or just in general as I would like to make this entry as informative as possible (obviously!)

Mu Beta Posted Oct 14, 2002
I don't think you should cut it down - shame to lose good words.
It's not too long yet, however if it gets that way, you can suggest points at which the editors can cut it into two (or more) entries. I wouldn't worry about that for now, though. Keep it up!

I could probably reccomend the entry be split into the original trilogy and the new trilogy, then people can read it either way around.
I'm having trouble remembering what happens right before the speeder chase on Endor in Return of the Jedi, can anybody help? I don't want to watch the whole film just for that bit!

Fraid I can't help you out with that bit of information Oberon, but I reckon that splitting it up into the two trilogies would be a great way of dealing with it if it gets to long

Agreed.
OK - the middle third of ROTJ, in abbreviated form:
- Battle Plan of Rebellion - Leia agrees to go with Han Solo to take out the shield generator on the stolen Shuttle (Tiderian [spelling?]).
- Han offers Lando the Millenium Falcon.
- The shuttle uses its stolen code to pass Imperial defences; Darth senses Luke on board.
- Darth gets permission from the Emperor to confront Luke.
- Han beats up a couple of stormtroopers while his men are sat around smoking and having lunch (apparently!), Luke and Leia chase after the third one on a speeder.
That enough?

Thank you, thank you, thank you!
I forgot completely why Luke and Leia were chasing the stormtrooper, so thanx!

I have decided only to include background info on the films from now on as otherwise my entry will not meet the Writing Guidelines. If you look at the entry on the number 42 currently in the Writing Workshop you will see that entries can't merely be the plots of the films, they have to be more informative. Hopefully, my new pdated entry will be just as comprehensive though!

It's always difficult to put opinion into a piece like this without annoying someone. I object to you describing the Phantom Menace as the weakest film yet. It was far better than either the Return of the Jedi or Attack of the Clones, which were both pretty awful. From best to worst, I'd rate them as:
Empire Strikes Back
A New Hope
Attack of the Clones
Return of the Jedi
Attack of the Clones
And I know plenty of Star Wars fans who agree with me. So there!
