That's what I get for reading translated pages. He is actually a singer/songwriter and actor.

Got it sorted now.

Gnomon - time to move on

I don't think it can be Blaise Pascal. To rhyme with Dali and Volare it has to be Pascali or Pascale (pronounced Pascal-ay). Blaise Pascal's name is never pronounced like this. I'm also dubious about Dimitri. There are loads of Dimitris, such as Dimitri Shostakovich.

"ba la ba la ba la" doesn't sound like Moonlight Sonata to me. That would be "ba la la ba la la".

You've left out a line just before Dominike Camel.

i tend to agree about Dimitri and Pascale (i?), especially 'our Blaise' - just doesn't fit... smiley - sadface

i was thinking it sounded like a double act - or a partnership...

I've settled on Dimitri Schostakowitsch and the Opera Don Pasquale by Gaetano Donizetti its the easiest link to make.

Camels: found altenative lryics on a numbers of sites thumbing out the candels but have kept in reference to camels.

You don't think "Volare" is "Polari" do you? This is the gay slang immortalised by Kenneth Williams and Hugh Paddick in "Round the Horne" and would have been much appreciated by Dury as an east end boy and ex art student. Volare seems a bit tenuous.
