The barbeque tradition is similar in America. However, it can be fraught with snobbery and hatred. Regional differences within the country are bitter, and everyone (everyone worth considering) has his favorite barbeque. Technically, the phenomenon to which my esteemed fellow researcher was reffering is grilling. True barbeque is the process of slowly cooking meat over a very low heat while treating it with a jealously guarded sauce. Both are good. I like meat.
