A Conversation for The h2g2 Post Recipe
1930's cookbook

I have an old cookery book from the 1930's and it gives 'variations' on Toad in the Hole-including 'chop' Toad in the Hole, where instead of the traditional bangers, you substitute small lamb chops. I have never tried this myself, but it seems like a good idea.
and of course, you may like to try a sweetened batter and apple toad, for pudding of course

Those ideas sound intriguing.
I guess that you could try any variety of meat or fruit if you were careful to make sure it cooked through properly.
I'm impressed that a recipe for the humble Toad-in-the-Hole has attracted so many good ideas and comments. Please do email if you have any more that you would like to share with us. Red Dog seems to have gone a bit quiet recently.
Coming up: Fudge and Treacle Toffee - in readiness for Bonfire Night!
