Just to prove myself wrong, I played the new Resident Evil game on the gamecube for an excessive length of time before going to bed fully expecting Stage Two problems.
However, I got to sleep quite easily and had a fairly interesting dream involving Techno Ejay 2, which I had been messing around with earlier in the day.
Res Evil is a somewhat realistic looking game... certainly the most photorealistic I've played. I believe this may be why I was able to get to sleep quickly... my mind could easily 'digest' the images.

Interesting theroy.
the images go to a different part of the brain as they are so real.
the mind treats it as a movie rather than a game.
Hmmmmmmmmmmm

Well, when I had stage two insomnia after playing Dynasty Warriors 2, it wasn't the soldiers and environment that was stuck in my mind... What did stick was all the red and blue energy bars. So, probably any _unnatural_ looking images (Tetris blocks, Ejay samples, Mai Shiranui, Dune II harvesters etc) that you subject your brain to repeatedly will give you problems - the mind is trying to work out what they are, new information overload. Hmm... the black shakes from Johnny Pneumatic? :>
