A Conversation for Talking Point: Advertising

Advertising keeps some creative types employed and off the streets.

Without advertising, some creative types would be serving food and morosely griping about their tips.

While I could hardly make a case for Bosch (though, who knows, there might be some product placements in his art) I dare say that if Van Gogh had lived in the 1960s, he might have found his place at an agency.
And what would Michelangelo or Da Vinci have done with a camera and an editing suite?

Advertising has been an incubation chamber for some creatives that later branched out into film or TV or music video, taking the techniques that they learned in a hotbox environment and perfecting them in short form before they gathered enough check marks on their CVs to get a little production money thrown their way.

Conversely, some of the more drone-like figures in the business are kept happy and fed and away from more legitimate forms of expression and the dole queue...

just a thought...

I disagree. Many ads seem to have had no actual "creative" input; they're just a montage of predictable stock images. All the creative types seem to be working in the US as accountants these days. smiley - biggrin

Incidentally, Bosch is also a company manufacturing power tools and kitchen equipment, and have a lot to do with advertising...

I used Bosch plugs and coils and wires on my VW Type 2.
