Another note from a player of the Fender Performer: I bought the instrument in 1988 from a music store I was working at in Richmond, VA (USA). I've played out with the guitar on several different rigs, and has always sounded good. It's playability matches that of my PRS Custom 24. I have recently refinished the guitar, as many years of play have taken there toll on the finish. I made some modifications this time to match my playing style. The trem has always been locked down, so I filled the trem mechanism hole, installed a top mount adjustable bridge from WD Products. A new color this time; deep blue metalic, using the original pick guard. It is a beautiful instrument. The addition of the top mount bridge, and the fill in of the trem hole has increased the sustain, and seems to have improved the tone as well. I wouldn't trade this guitar for anything!
I also own a Fender Big Apple Strat, which also has been customized with an addition single coil strat pickup in the middle, with a switch to place it in with any selector position, in or out of phase. Lots of great tonal possibilities. Also refinished in a custom color, dark red metalic, the same as my 89' Corvette! The two Fenders are my primary axes. I,ve never seen another Performer, and few people have even heard of them, it's good to know some one else out there is enjoying this fine instrument. I still don't know why the guitar is not listed anywhere in any Fender guide book that I've seen.
