My main motivation for writing this is that Mrs RBA comes from Pembrokeshire, and we have had many happy holidays in Pembrokeshire spanning over 30 years. We both now live in Wiltshirew and so I'm interested in the fact that the Stonehenge bluestones came from Preseli.
Hence this was written to complement my EG Entry on Wiltshire and Annie's Entry on 'Stonehenge' (currently in PR)
There are still some cosmetic things for me to see to but, in essence, it's all here.

fantastic
I used to live in Castlemartin, which is about as far as you can go before falling into the sea.
At the time it was the only part of mainland Britain where the German army were based. They were there for 8 or 9 months of the year, at Castlemartin Camp - where part of the National Park was used for tank practice. The land was wonderfully wild, because nobody was allowed there (danger of unexploded mines)
I'm getting all "homesick" for it now - although as a teenager I hated living there ("bo-ring")

Actually, I had thought about including a section on 'Military Presence' to include Castleartin and Brwdy etc, but I thought it was quite long enough already

An *outstanding* job you've done so far, BigAl! Well done!
One thing that I think I'd really like to see added to the Entry is perhaps a general 'Things To See And Do' section - Pembrokeshire is such a fantastic place to go on holiday, and I think that adding a few more tourist attractions would be a spiffing idea. Things like Caldy Island, perhaps? St David's Cathedral - when's it open? Does it charge a fee? Same with Pembroke Castle. And isn't there some kind of theme park not far from Saundersfoot nowadays?
Great work!

well, the teenage me would argue that there is _nothing_ to do down there, but the older (wiser) me would say it's a fantastic place.
I think you could maybe spare a few lines for the military at Brawdy and Castlemartin (are they still ther?) there was the American naval presence at Brawdy which I found interesting. (mostly because they seemed so exotic and handsome)
There's a little chapel - ah, remembered the name: St Govan's (sp?) chapel, half way down one of the cliffs (near Stackpole?) which is interesting, and since I've been there, I'd guess it's open to the public.
Also, not sure if it's true now as it was then, but there is a fantastic beach at Freshwater West which had very dangerous currents - it wasn't banned as such, but swimming there was definitely not encouraged.
I'll stop now. it's an excellent article, and what I have to say would be better said in conversations after this hits the front page.
Soon I hope again, because you can't have too much of that

Yes, St Govan's is the correct spelling and it is open to the public. Really charming little place. Hmm. Pergaps I can find a bit of space to mention that.

I've added in a bit about St Govan's Chapel. I will put in a bit about military presence ands Caldey Isand but I'll leave these for another day.
I think that detail like admission to places like St David's Cathedral etc are best left to specialist Entries on these places - however I'm sure you can find it on their website which is hyperlinked.
I might put in Oakwood Park (nr Tenby) but IMO the real attractionb(s) of Pembrokeshire are the coast and National Park.

A comprehensive and well-written entry - so much so, in fact, that I can't think of anything wrong with it. An unfortunate situation .

What a real pleasure to read something like this.
I spotted a few punctuation errors and omissions but I haven't the heart to list them. Merlin the Magician = magician.
double-round
very well done, BigAl, I hope your Missus is very proud
I'm linking to this on the Stonehenge entry - when it/they get edited I'll apply to change the link.

Hi BigAl
This is really good, makes me wish I was there now. I've been there on holiday a few times and one of the places we visited last time was Castell Henllys (http://www.castellhenllys.com/) an iron Age fort excavated and reconstructed by York Uni.
Don't know if you want to add it somewhere but still...

Yes, it's an idea. I just added Caldey Island under it's own sub-header, but I might include them both under 'Interesting Places to Visit'
This Entry is growing like Topsy!

Hi BigAl, good to see another well-researched entry in PR!
I don't know much about the area (or anything, in fact, which I didn't read in your entry ), so I'm afraid my comments are just corrections to some dates. I don't know where your dates came from originally
, but the ones about the Prince of Wales, etc are badly wrong.
That's impressive - to be recognised as a prince 28 years after dying!
Henry III recognised Llewelyn the Great as PoW in 1218.
Henry III died in 1272, succeeded by Edward I, but he was never PoW. Edward I created his son (the future Edward II) the first English PoW in 1301.
Edward I set up the fortifications in the *13th* century after finally subduing the Welsh under Llewelyn the Last in 1282.
, but I'm a bit of a history buff, so don't like these sorts of things to slip by.

Casper, I don't know how thoser inconsistencies crept in either.
Reference:
Henry III died in 1272, succeeded by Edward I, but he was never PoW. Edward I created his son (the future Edward II) the first English PoW in 1301.
I can recall having trouble getting the phrasing correct here whilst maintaining conciseness. I'll try and correct this.
Edward I set up the fortifications in the *13th* century after finally subduing the Welsh under Llewelyn the Last in 1282.
I'll do this as well. I can recall having trouble here as my source did actually say 13th C, but then this didn't agree with his dates of bith and death - so I used 14th C
I'll give you a Credit
