I think Hoovooloo was also saying that we will not give up our belief in money easily, and also that we will not be *allowed* to give it up easily.
I am certain that the transition away from money will be as bloody as anything that the Inquisition or any of the Mujahadeens can throw at us. The limit is not the scope of human fear, the limit is the scope of human technology.
There is another factor. It seems that humans need something intangible in which to beleive. Another DNA comment was about god requiring beleif in order to exist. That if there is proof of god's existance he will disapppear in a puff of logic. I therefore doubt that we will stop believing in money until we have found something else. Crystal healing, anyone?
I am going to write a new entry, incorporating a lot of the stuff y'all have challenged my thinking with. I will save a copy of the original entry though, because I think the papertrail is interesting.

Hey Zarquon's Fish: not a comment on this article (sorry Ben!), but if you or anyone else have any info to hand about the LETS scheme it would make a great article, hint hint. I've stumbled across it before but don't know much about it, so it'd be nice to see someone H2G2 it.

I used to live about 6 miles from Stroud which was one of the first areas in the UK to have a LETS. Unfortunately I know next to nothing about it, and absolutely nothing about the pros and cons and practicalities. Zarq probably knows more. Or else sling up a question on askh2g2. Zarq is on holiday for a week.
Did you get the Air Guitar entry into PR, helium, (or should I call you 'League'? It is an ace entry.

Roll up! Roll up! Please find the new version of this entry here: A808931
And the Writing Workshop thread that goes with it is here: F57153?thread=203836&latest=1
I have slung it into WW because PR is for final versions of entries, and it seems a bit off to leave it in here when I may still change it.
Thanks to all of you for challenging my thinking. Go visit the new version and challenge it again!

Zarquon's Singing Fish! Posted Aug 21, 2002
I haven't quite gone yet - tomorrow morning early. I do intend doing an entry on LETS as part of my University entry, which I'm still feeling a bit guilty about .
I'm also going to do one on Time Banking, which is a similar thing. However, I'm not going to start until I get back from camping.

Zarq - excellent: can't wait to see the LETS stuff! Enjoy the camping!
Ben - thanks, I did put that air guit article into PR and made some minor changes, but it's basically done.
I shall make sure I mosey on over to WW to check out the new version.
For now, I'm tired and will simply Check Out.
