Well, I think I've said as much as I can on the issue without knowing anything else about how, or by whom, the site will be run, so I'll leave it at that.

I don't think we want to fall into the trap of making it even more restrictive than it was under the BBC to play it safe. That seems to me to be the best way to keep h2g2 a quaint little backwater on the web with users in the low hundreds, if that.

I'm not saying that. Just keep the English language rule for purposes of super injunctions and the age rule.

We just need proper sensible legal advice...I maybe completely wrong. I'm just giving an opinion based on my lay understanding of things as they stand in English law and the cultural climate here at present.

Yes I made that point earlier; I don't know. Twitter are California based. I'd assumed we'd be England based.

But those are all things that lawyers can advise on when it comes to internet stuff. We certainly can't afford to get that wrong as Law varies so much in different places. That was the big issue in the Giggs case, and why Tory MPs demanded a committee to look into it with regards internet and Law.

Only if can you ask in at least five languages. This is after all a thread regarding multilingual hootoo.

We'd stay a uk company and you remember I was mentioning bills? Lawyers would be one of them. The other one is indemnity insurance against being sued. We'r

Even if you're incorporated abroad you can still be sued in the uk.

I'll settle for four languages or three languages and a well-recognized lingo or creole if and only if you use complete sentences.

Er, we're thinking English- we haven't had the legal advice yet though.

Remember the Giggs story was published in a Scottish newspaper, when it was clear English Law couldn't touch them.

It might be good to go with Scotland. You and Ben live there don't you?

We do but we'd need to see what the legal advice was, we're not going to pay for that until we know we've got it!

We'd see one who was familiar with both systems.

I'm not really here

"A question for those among us who are ancient in h2g2 terms--how did it work pre-BBC? "

Douglas went round other countries publicising h2g2, so we had people posting in other languages. Moderation didn't exist as such, but if someone say something awful they'd email the Eds, who would check and remove it. For languages they couldn't read, they'd trust the Community, which we did a bit of after the move to the BBC, but there weren't enough volunteers to make it work.

You are not being knocked off track. The topic is a multilingual hootoo. If you are not asking questions of a multilingual nature, then the *least* you can do is ask your off-topic question in several languages.

Incidentally, you asked:

can we ask ?? if the comunity win the bid, where will noohootoo be hosted??
