Whereas the original AP was parodying all those grandiose sixties villains and AP2 was just a bit of a cash-in, I think the new one was intended to be more in the Roger Moore mould -- specifically, Live And Let Die, which has the whole "it's the blaxploitation bandwagon! Let's jump on it!" corner sewn up. (And a theme by Wings. I mean, it's good, but in a blaxploitation rip-off Bond movie? Wouldn't Isaac Hayes have been more appropriate? Or James Brown? Get up [ah] get on up)
So we still have the eighties cliches to run through. Underwater Lotus cars, conspicuous consumption, female sidekicks with shoulderpads and cheekbones, the whole bit. I imagine they won't stop at three. Not now.
