I'm not sure what the process for selecting Curators is, but I would like to nominate Rudest Elf U229466 for becoming one.
His work in Peer Review and Editorial Feedback is remarkable, and fantastic at making Edited Guide Entries even better.
I feel it's worth cuting the middle man out, and giving him the responsibility of a Curator

If it is any use (and assuming RE is happy with the concept), I would like to back up that request. Good call, Matt

You really are naughty, Matt. Had I noticed this thread earlier, I would have responded straight away, making it clear that the Curators need not comment.
There is nothing 'remarkable' about what I've been doing (except, perhaps, the amount of time I devote to it). The vast majority of the errors I find are typos, missed along the way for a variety of reasons - not least, overreliance on spell-checkers.
I like doing it and I enjoy interacting with people this way, but you're mistaken if you think I have the skills or experience of Researchers like Gnomon or Danny.
"fantastic at making Edited Guide Entries" It's you guys who deserve the plaudits!
I think you know I enjoy working with you, Matt - just don't volunteer me for anything, okay?
Now, if there was money in it...

Gnomon - time to move on Posted Jul 1, 2007
Rudest Elf, I had considered suggesting you as a curator myself, although I hadn't actually got around to doing it. I would have done it through the curators' private group, where you would never have known, if the Editors had decided to turn the request down.
I do think that the work you are doing is really helping to improve the Guide, and only occasionally have I objected to any of the changes you've suggested, so you are definitely Curator material. I think the best thing, though, is if I suggest it through an e-mail to the Editors, rather than in a public forum like this. I'll let you know, whatever they say.

The curator's job is the nicest one of the lot. You don't have to do anything. If you feel like making any changes to the Guide, then you do them. If you don't feel like doing them, you just leave it to Danny B. As long as you report what you've been doing, you're left to your own devices.
So don't feel that when Matt volunteers you for something, he's making your life difficult.

Well, maybe just a little bit
I feel you've given a lot to the EG recently RE, and like the others in this thread I reckon you deserve a little kudos.
If you feel the title and role of Curator isn't your thing, that's a real shame, but perhaps we could wangle a h2g2 t-shirt into the post for you?
*whispers* tell us what size and I'm sure we can get Nat or Derek to send one on to you
Oh, and Wimla, put those handcuffs away! People will get entriely the wrong impression!

You guys are something else!
Your comments please me a great deal, and I do see that there would be advantages if I were to accept the nomination .
My father is arriving from the UK today and he will be spending a whole week with us - sleeping in the computer room to boot - so I won't be able to contribute much for a while.
Matt, If you could wangle me an h2g2 t-shirt, I'd wear it with pride - I'm a medium by the way... not that I'm taking anything for granted...
Wimla, perhaps we should hold Matt's spanking in obeyance, so to speak... at least until we find out how he gets on.
I'll be back.

TRiG (Ireland) A dog, so bade in office Posted Aug 11, 2007
I think the original curators were handpicked from the subeditors (with Gnomon as the exception). Then I was hauled in for basically doing something similar to what RE is now doing. (I've actually become less active since: I don't know whether the two are connected; maybe now that I have the responsibility of fixing problems myself I'm less inclined to go looking for them; or maybe it's simply that I've got busier elsewhere.)

I don't know how you managed it for me, Matt, but you've convinced the Eds to send me a T-shirt.
Thank you. It means a lot to me.
Now, I'd better do a spot of work.

From memory it involved , and a ritual that really shouldn't be mentioned.
But you're more than welcome sir.
