A Conversation for The H2G2 Japanese Maple

The pun may not have been intended by you, but it may have been intended by a higher power, or your subconscious, since surveys have shown that most people's subconsciousnesses (subconscii?) like a good pun, or a 'Freudian slip', or in fact anything that will amuse and/or irritate the general audience that is around, which is why we so often make mistakes when saying things, our subconscious thinks its funny.

He was quite a character, though.
Interesting to have around, though many
religious types hated him apparently.
He wrote a psychological profile of
U.S. President Woodrow Wilson.

hmmm......... that could be fairly amusing to read
I don't really agree with Freud's stance, I'm afraid Interesting guy, though.

Wait, I missed the joke...nameing navels?
Calm....
Catwoman Posted Jun 3, 2003
Contemplating navels mostly.
Freud is very, erm, interesting, but most of what he wrote was a case of 'omnia testes in adminiculis est' (I don't know Latin so will have to rely on other weird people)

Omnia means "all" or "all things"
testes are a sexual term (male)
adminiculum is a prop or support
est is a form of the verb "to be"
Order of words is insignificant, because
case endings run the show in Latin grammar.
loosely translated, it probably means
that the testes are the foundation (i.e. support)
for all our behaviors. In other words,
everything boils down to sex, or the libido.

Catwoman Posted Jun 4, 2003
That interpretation would be one Freud would approve of, because you're translating with thought to what you expect it to be, given the nature of the conversation.
(my friend uses it as 'it's all just b*****ks on sticks', which is my opinion of Freud in general)

Not being a true latin scholar, I can't
prove that my translation has much validity.
I guess the most obvious knock against
freud nowadays is that he assumed the
sexual repression of his time to be the
universal lot of mankind/peoplekind.
It turned out not to be as universal as
he thought it was. If he could have lived
64 years longer, he would undoubtedly have
caught his error....

So, is he for or against lots of sex? And should we be contemplating this in the pure, atmosphere of the maple?

Freud didn't necessarily approve or disapprove of sex, he just thought it was very very important to our mental state. Typical man.
(oh, and the penis envy thing? not true. why would girls want one?)
