Ode to a lump of volcanic ash I found in my airplane engine this morning by Beatrice

Oh putrid fumes of rotting eggs

Thy gaseous plumes do soar

Like halitosis from a very

Poorly dinosaur

Oh rock and glass so pulverized

Pollute the stratosphere!

Spew and disperse, come do your worst

Pour magma far and near.

Oh lava pump, and ash eject

Throw pyroclastic clouds!

Particulate abrasiveness

Spreads o'er the world like shrouds

Emit sulphuric belch through fissures

Viscous lahar free

Debris and pumice fragments spray

Geothermally

Erupt once more and havoc wreak

So all those travelling folk'll

Have to go by boat or train

Dear Eyjafjallajoekull

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
