Yeah, I was dreading that bit, because I don't like being critical. I know I'm in the wrong place, if this is the case...

I have mixed opinions about this entry. Obviously the first-person stuff at the start will have to go; because this wasn't originally planned to be an Edited Entry, that shouldn't be problem smiley - smiley.

Subesequently, we are left with just a long list of translations, which in itself is a bit of a sparse entry. This is begging questions as to the origins of the Scots dialect; why English people can't understand it; some links to A264403; etc. etc.

Oh, and 'perculiar'-'peculiar' I know Scots talk jibberish, but they should be able to spell smiley - winkeye

Sorry and all, but I think this needs some more work.

B

It may need some tweaking, but if every guide entry was ready made, then there'd be nothing for any of us to do! smiley - tongueoutsmiley - winkeye

You're absolutely right, it never was intended to be submitted, I wrote it simply to prevent me having to explain what I'm on about sometimes.

The fact that it would simply be a long list was my biggest worry since it was submitted.

I also knew about the other entry and thus thought mine was fairly irrelivant.

Spelling...what can I say, I can't spell, never have, never will, and it's a long drawn out story why, which I dont intend to bother people with.

and I think it needs a lot of work

*boring pedant bit - sorry*

Yes, but if it needs work, it shouldn't be in PR in the first place. Now, I'm trying not to be patronising here, but you're both experienced hootooers, and you both know that.

Now I feel like a mean old git. Told you I didn't like doing criticism smiley - sadface

Fact is I never submitted it and I never intended too, someone else did, and took the decision away from me.

Well.... this doesn't seem to be going to well smiley - sadface

I have to say I totally disagree B: If it has finished, and needs some tweaking then it deserves to go in Peer Review. An example of this is one of my own g.e., which was the very first one I wrote: it wasn't in guide ml, and was written ad hoc, but I submitted it anyway... I'd forgotten about it months later, until someone said that although it wasn't the best g.e., if it had an overhaul, it could be a good entry, and have had their help in overhauling it... feedback is good at any level, and I'm sorry you didn't enjoy reading it as much as I did.

Because I did, which is why I submitted it in the first place: I've read edited entries that are a lot less interesting than this one....
But I won't do it again smiley - winkeye

Zarquon's Singing Fish!

Oh Em! smiley - cheerup

Please don't take your ball and go home!smiley - blue I really like this entry and think it has great potential. All it needs is a bit of spell checking (I'm really good at that) and the first person removed.

I did notice that some of the terms aren't exclusively Scottish, eg flit (which in Lancashire has the meaning of move home very quickly, probably owing rent on the previous house), jiggered, Jessie and nowt. Again, in Lancashire, 'nowt' has the additional meaning of being peevish, in a bad mood. Minging (not Lancashire) has the meaning additiona meaning of pongy.

If you've taken it out, do a bit of work on it and bung it back again! I'll willingly help with the spelling (unless I'm on holiday - I'm off fairly soon).
