A Conversation for Talking Point - Lunch
Working Lunch

I've lost a job before now, purely because I repeatedly refused to forego my lunchbreak in order to work. My boss at the time was very much of the "lunch is for wimps" breed whereas for me, it is my main meal of the day. I don't eat breakfast, as I can't face food just after waking up, and I have only a snack in the evening (meals out notwithstanding). I finally got sacked when my boss demanded that I finish a report earlier than his previous deadline, which would mean working the entire time the canteen was open. "Is it a matter of life and death?" I asked him. "No", he replied. "Then it can wait for me to have lunch" I said. "You're fired" he replied. And I was.
