We'll take the plural for the acrostic, it's easier with an even number of letters.

Home is where the hearth is, when the winter's coming in,
All is safely gathered, storms without, the warmth within.
Reserves of food and drink are cached, the fire is blazing bright,
Vanities of summer fade as glows the candlelight.
Every cabin dweller in the weathered zone reflects,
Stores are needed, fire is life, the shuttered door protects
The nest where singles, couples, clans and families retreat,
Saving strength and resting, seeking comfort, seeking heat.

Half the pleasure of country living,
Arose from working together and giving,
Respect for your neighbours, respect for the world,
Vicariously helping, when asked or told.
Each year when summer drew to an end,
Schoolchildren knew that they'd have to attend,
Taking their place on the farmer's land,
Stacking the bales and lending a hand.

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
