On my user page:

The "latest messages" section shows:
Bel dropping by Apr 28, 2008
Photoshop... 2 Weeks Ago
Sorry if i offended 2 Weeks Ago
Gno --> Sho 2 Weeks Ago
took me a while to find you... 3 Weeks Ago
These are ordered with the most recent conversation first. Clicking on the date brings me to the most recent posting in the conversation as I would expect, but the date shown is not the date of that posting, it is the date of the first posting in the conversation.

Technically, the date shown is for the posting - which is the first posting. All the rest are replies.
So if the date was to show the latest reply the header should read latest reply. This is shown underneath in the 'Conversations' section.
I agree it is a slightly awkward system.

It should be showing the last posting (as it does in the current skins) - hence the heading "Latest Messages". The start date of the thread isn't that useful is it?

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
