English language and english literature, which are two seperate GCSEs and Physics, Chemistry and Biology which are taken together and count as two GCSEs.
Bizarre.

Alright... In the US, the AP tests (advanced placement; you take college-level classes in high school and then take the national test on the material, and colleges decide whether you scored well enough to not need their class on that material) -- anyway, those are divided into English Lit/Composition... And the sciences I think are all separate though... Because of course it is concievable that you don't understand a word of chemistry but are great at memorising what they want you to for biology, or whatever, I guess....

So if you went to a different school, you wouldn't have to take three sciences?

Nope. I'd probably get a choice of which ones I wanted, and I'd need to take at least one. Rather daft, I think...
