I never really did say thanks, did I? I guess life rarely, if ever, gives us that opportunity, and never in happy circumstances.
I don't remember why we first started talking, but I'm glad we did. We met at a time of huge uncertainty in both our lives, and it was only natural that once we had met we'd spend so many nights drinking wine late at night and chatting away. We beat dawn a few times, eh? We both had some pretty tough times then. I'm glad you were always there to talk to. I wouldn't have been where I am today without you. And I loved you and the mad ideas we came up with together.
Life got better, for both of us, but the downside I think was that we were in touch less frequently. I guess the last year went by with much more than an email now and then. I knew this meant you were happy and so was I, but I've often sat outside with a glass of wine at 2am and thought about our starry chats. I often thought of texting you or phoning to see how you were. I wish I had. I don't imagine I'll ever have a friend like you again, and I find it hard to believe that we'll never meet.
I'm going outside for a belated glass of wine to toast your memory, under a horribly drizzly sky with not a single star blazing away, with only 'Yeovil Town' for company. I'll miss you terribly.
