With the advent of digital programme delivery, we are rapidly approaching the point where we could be paying for our viewing by the minute... Channels could show the same content with differing levels of advertising at different costs. (Ad-free being more expensive than an ad every 20 minutes, which would be more expensive than an ad every ten minutes...)
This would open the BBC to performance-related funding, where the programmes with the greater audience would generate the most funding for future productions.
