Yeah, a great "book", more of a construction kit. Probably available from your friendly online shop named after a South American river, I expect...
Made a couple of the boxes, but couldn't get the actual flexagons to work properly - probably should have used stickier glue...

Fascinating. Some of Escher's images are so well-known, 'Ascending And Descending' perhaps most of all; but I knew nothing about Escher himself, and I really enjoyed this Entry. As an added bonus, I now know what the Alhambra Theatre in my home city was named after! Thank you very much for the education!

You're welcome! Very glad you enjoyed it.
(btw, if you like his stuff, do be sure and see "Labyrinth", the movie. There's a really cool section in the middle where David Bowie basically walks around inside "Relativity". Plus there's some contact juggling A592742 in it, and of course Jennifer Connelly )

Hello
Great entry on Escher, I know a bit about the subject, but unfortunately I'm here to point out an obscure Doctor Who reference that might make an OK footnote, sorry .
The last Tom Baker Story and the first Peter Davison story where named after Escher prints (Logopolis and Castrovalva), and in Castrovalva they used an spacial trap that seemed very much based on that wierd steps print used for that David Bowie film (space was collapsing in on itself with the Doctor inside).

Hi PSG.
Have you actually read the entry at all? Specifically, have you read footnote 1?

Oh, and another thing - there is no Escher drawing titled "Logopolis", at least no reference whatever to one in any source I've been able to find.
Where have you seen Escher's "Logopolis"?

Sorry.
How to make a burk of yourself in one easy lesson:
1) Yes, I scanned through the entry, and noticed you mentioned the David Bowie film (I can't remember how to spell the title that is why I haven't written it) in the text and so forgot to check the footnotes, whoops.
2) I remembered seeing Castrovalva in a book of escher I had, and thought I could remember a picture called Logopolis (This is probably because both stories where written by the same person[I think, but my memory seems to be playing tricks])
So sorry if this seemed like someone blundering in who hadn't read it, it wasn't intended to be.

I looked in the book, your right Logopolis isn't there.

Memory isn't playing tricks this time, PSG - Logopolis and Castrovalva were both written by Christopher H. Bidmead. And the "spacial trap" was called a "recursive occlusion", a nice bit of technobabble I always thought...

Well, it looks as though the h2g2 in-house artists might have to attempt an Escher imitation. This Entry has now been accepted for the Edited Guide!
Congratulations!

Cheeeeerio!
I could supply some ideas for the graphics because drawing tesselations is my favourite pastime during some boring executive meetings
