I would be safer dealing with vegetables, eating bunnies isn't everyones idea of the done thing.
take care ianmac.

Hi Ian!

I'm not sure I would, or even could, do this except under the most unlikely circumstances. None the less, in a guide to "life, the universe and everything" I agree it has a potential place.

I was a little confuced initially as to the circumstances you are describing. From your initial reference to a table, I assumed this was how to prepare a rabbit in the kitchen. From later parts, it's clear that this must be done "in the field". I think it would benefit from an intorductory paragraph saying where & why you would do this. I don't know, for example, whether a rabbit must be gutted immediately for the meat to be safe, or whether it is simply clearner, safer, or otherwise more preferable to do it in the field. You may believe anyone who would do this would know, but they would probably not need the entry in that case.

An indication of how deep you need to slit in order to do the job but avoid puncturing bits would be helpful too. Is a quarter of an inch deep enough, or what?

Also the sentence "The part attached to the rear can easily be pulled and broken without risk of contamination, as anything in this part, will be the rabbit droppings we all know, small hard pellets. " is a little confused. I think you need a "which" and an "are" and a few less commas.

Other than that, since I can't comment on the method as such, I think that's all I can add.

Thanks for your advice. I am very new to this, I've eaten rabbits all my life, I'm 51 in july, but this is the the first time I've ever tried to explain it without a demonstration.I just hope anyone else who comments on my writing abilities is as helpful and constuctive.
thanks amendments will be made. take care ianmac

I can imagine it being easier to demo than explain.

There is only one thing worse than being Gosho, and that is not being Gosho

This "expelling the urine" thing (sounds like taking the p*ss to me smiley - winkeye)... do you have to do it with other animals? I'd like to see someone try it with a 3000lb dead bull!

bit confused in the first paragraph. should the rabbit be gutted first, have the wee squeezed out first, or left to cool first? smiley - erm

Hi and thanks, I will look at my entry, with a view to altering the confusing part. I find all of this very strange, but thankyou for your input. I am new to this, and find it quite disconcerting, being peer reviewed. Thanks and take care ianmac. drop by anytime.smiley - smiley.

peer review is a bit freaky isn't it?!?!?

useful though. helps to pick embarressing typos and total inaccuracies.

i've only managed to put two entires through myself, even though i have been a contributor on loads of entires. but it is nice to have some input from others before posting a load of old tosh.

these dead animal entries are fascinating,....are you going to write some more?

Emmily ~ Roses are red, Peas are green, My face is a laugh, But yours is a scream

my dad used to breed and kill rabbits for eating..as a kid i used to watch him..from what i remember immediately after killing he would hang the rabbit up by it's back legs and slit it's throat..allowing blood to drain into a bucket..before gutting..you don't mention draining blood..just curious..

Nice article. smiley - ok

All the corrections (and the taking the p*ss joke) seem to have been done by the time I got here, which is a shame because I've gutted a rabbit before.

Hi regarding draining the blood from the rabbit, I've never found it necessary, however in the other article on preparing a rabbit for the table, which is linked to this one, I mentioned soaking the meat in a strong salt solution. This removes some blood giving the meat a far whiter look, and possibly improves the eating quality a little. Thanks for the input ianmac.
