I think it has to be said that the *only* way to approach Anime Porn is with a healthy sense of humour, which blessedly, most porn from Japan seems to have.
I mean, can you really take La Blue Girl seriously? I *know* that the magistrates in this country, the UK, couldn't, which is how an aquaintance of mine got his copies into the country after Customs had seized them. They laughed so much when he showed them in court that they couldn't possibly rule them obscene. 
I think the dub of Venus Five is about in the right spirit, to be honest.

I have p****e copies of the sequel, Lady Blue at home. I was going to get rid of them, but Mina wouldn't let me as she wanted to see them. 
It's not a patch on the original, to be honest.

I also have this unreasonable liking for Dragonball Z, so I appreciate the artists who go to the trouble to draw, say, Videl and Gohan going at it in comic book format

Lain isn't that odd, surely? I mean, it was very much a product of it's time, inasmuch that it shares much in common with series such as Evangelion and Key: The Metal Idol.
