A Conversation for Knowle/Dorridge, Solihull, West Midlands
Station square

About 25 years ago there was a fantastic model railway shop in that small shopping square near the station, and lads and ladettes of a certain 'got to have the latest XYZ from Hornby' age used to come to Dorridge from miles around just to shop there.
As I recall it closed though. Certainly its position (as perceived by a young me) as the 'bestest model railway shop in the midlands south of Brum' was taken by a shop halfway between Warwick and Leamington. Which also (as I recall) moved, to smaller premises, three-quarters of the way to Leamington. Not that I've visited that for at least 20 years either. Maybe the one in Dorridge didn't close at all, and the one in Warwick/wherever just offered a better class of chair for my mother to sit on and read her book while she waited ...
Got to be honest that I don't really remember Dorridge as a village though (not even one that could fool a German tourist). Is there actually much green land separating it from the Birmingham splodge?

The train shop is indeed gone, i don't remember it being there, though i did only move here about 11 years ago and i may of forgotten about it anyway.
Dorridge does actualy contain a lot of green spaces, the council seem to of spent a fair amount on town beautification. Although it doesn't display a country Village in the proper sence it shows the border between society and the wilderness. It being surrounded by green belt land does seperate it from birmingham as well.
