I think you should also spare a mention for the famous Witchfinder Generals. These were men who got paid by the Church for every witch they found.
There was one man (cannot remember his name unfortunately) who was so good at finding witches (i.e. picking on some poor innocent girl and starving and torturing them until they confessed) that the locals naturally deduced that he must be in league with the devil himself and so burned him too. Now that is poetic justice for you!
Also don't forget the farcical trial of Joan of Arc who was burnt as a witch even though previously the Church had said that the voices that told her to conquer the English were coming from God.
