I am useing this as a stepping stone on the topic of open source. I know that it is not well writen per-say english wise, and you are free to change and make corrections as you wish.

The propriatary licences issue is very important, especially as they (microsoft and co) are trying to crack down on people not paying for them.
Unfortunately for microsoft, this crackdown is backfiring, as due to the massive fines and / or prison sentence that can be incurred a lot of places are deliberately looking for open source alternatives so that they don't fall into this problem.
When you add to that the fact that free software (which is not the same as open source) has the bugs fixed more often, and is generally more secure, then you have a generally better product anyway.
