hi researcher.
i've found your entry very helpful, especially what you have to say on globalisation and social wellfare, thanks
a few points, where i disagree:
1. it is not true to say, left theory has not changed a lot since the 19th century. it has (see feminist theory, theory of racism, criticism of modern), although the main (fairly liberal) goal of personal freedom included the economic point of view is still the most important.
2. My knowledge of the time are rather scarce, but is it not too simplistic saying, mr. joe was the bad guy flawing the revolution. many people (inclusive lenin) have worked towards an elitarian, centralised organisation in very early stages of the revolution. I guess, one thing to learn from this, is to watch authoritarian tendencies in every organisation
3. Globalisation is not as fresh and new as you describe it. ok, I don't really know that much about it, but I guess the new thing is the multitude of centres and peripheries. As you said: in the past, the poor countries, the poor neighbourhoods, the poor classes very easily identifiable. Today, they are not.
But nevertheless; during the colonisation and the enslavement of the major part of humankind, corporations already acted on a global scale.
4. About social liberalisms main function of pacifiying the workers I agree with you. But it might be more helpfull to elaborate this a bit more (the only source of wealth being the plusvalue, the ruling class needs a needy, but not-too-poor laobour force. the state reglements the market, so monopolisation and concentration of wealth in few hands do not get excessive.)
5. That the current system is univeitably doomed I do not see. But I don't have any arguments to that right now.
I just found out there is a project going on, trying to compile everything on Marx and Marxism, maybe you'd like to join in (i might as well, but ask some other alien researchers first). at: A641756 (i hope the link will work, i havent figured everything out yet, as i am fairly new here as well)
bye,
spoon
