If you ever go to your local cafe shoppe and order an Italian Cream Soda (and enjoy them!). Here is the recipe for the perfect Italian Cream Soda. First thing is to have the ingredients. You are going to need about a 12 oz or 16 oz glass, a flavored syrup of your choice, ice, half and half and club soda.These 5 easy steps are:

First: Put the ice in the glass all the way to the top.
Second: Fill the glass with about 2/3 of the flavored syrup.
Third: Fill the glass with the club soda till you have a small space left at the top.
Forth: Top it off with half and half.
Fifth: Stir and enjoy!

Hi, roadtripchick!

I see that you are fairly new to h2g2, so welcome, and I hope your first entry here in Peer Review goes well. Since the Guide is in British English, there are a few things you need to explain a bit more:
Half-and-half: This is only found in the US, I think. In British terms it is half milk and half single cream. (It sounds a bit wimpy to people who prefer double cream!)
Club soda: Is this actually flavoured or is it just carbonated water?
Syrup: What are the most common flavours?
and finally, why are they called Italian?

It sounds as though the American half and half and the british half milk and half single cream are the same. I have never been to England. So I am sorry but I am not sure. Club soda is carbonated water but I have heard of people using water but trust me it doesn't taste as good. You can use any of your favorite syrups (After I submitted this entry I thought about it and figured that I probably should have been alittle bit more clear.)In America we use syrups to flavor coffees, lattes, cappicionos, etc. My personal favorite is hazelnut. I would not recommend anything from the chocolate family. More examples are irish cream, raspberry, vanilla or orange. You can get creative and try mixing flavors like vanilla and raspberry! Why are they called Italian Cream Soda? I don't know the answer to that. Do you think that I should add some of these things? I didn't want to make it to complicated but I see that some people might not understand.

Hi, roadtripchick!

I'd agree with Strider - a lot of people here like complications. And especially since quite a few people here have English as their second language, it always helps to explain things which are found in one country but not others.

I think you could put in a couple of things in brackets:
(half milk and half single cream) for the half and half
(soda water) for the cream soda - or maybe (carbonated water)

For the flavoured syrup, I think it would be nice to list some of your favourites.

If you don't know about why it's 'Italian' just ignore that part!

I just got off of work and I checked it out and half and half is half milk and half cream. I thought it was but didn't want to make the assumption. Thanks for pointing everything out. It will give me something to go on in the future.

There's one little thing you added that it would be better to take out again: where you say 'I don't recommend it'. We're not supposed to say 'I' did this or that in Edited entries - they're supposed to be written in the third person. Perhaps you could just leave it as 'Don't use chocolate', or else say 'chocolate is not recommended'.

Gnomon - time to move on

This is interesting and useful. It's nice to get useful entries every so often! It should certainly become part of the guide, after some tidying.

The first sentence is incomplete. Read everything up as far as the full stop (period) and see what sense it makes. Then rephrase it.


Since your entry is already in GuideML, it should be an easy matter to add two headings: Ingredients and Preparation.

Put the ingredients into a bullet-point list rather than all one one line.

Take away the words First, Second etc. You don't need them once the instructions are in the list.

I would agree with Gnomen's (? Was it you Gnomen? I can't remember, and am too lazy to check) request for headers. They're really easy. Where you want a header you write, quote:

Your Header Here

So, for an ingredients header you'd write

Ingredients

Also, I noticed in passing that you use the American spelling of flavour. It's not a big deal, as the Subs would have changed it anyway, but you might as well change it to make their job easier.

OK, another installment:

I'd put s around your first paragraph, 'cause otherwise (at least in classic goo) the text is a little too close to the header for my liking. Just me though.

I was thinking, and I realised, wouldn't 2/3 syrup make an awfully strong Italian Soda? I usually use about a quarter, but maybe I like them weaker than you do... then again, I don't usually make them cream sodas. Just a thought.
