an unrelated rant on misplaces ultruism/charity/priorities etc.
i got a letter yesterday that really pi**ed me off.
it was from my uni which i left 2 years ago asking for monoey for hard up students.
i personally am a very ahrd up ex student. i am saving v. hard to go back to said uni where i will once again be a hard up student. so i get a little cross when asked for money for something i want to do myself but is taking me years to save up to do.
i struggled through college and i am going to struggle again. but i would not go if i didnt have the money to get through and i would not have gone last time if i had not made sure i had the money first.
i have every sympathy for kids whoses finacial support drops out from under them unexcpectdly in the middle of college, i had friends this happened to and its not unheard of, but i do ibject to people that are after hardship funds after the first year because they couldnt get off their arses and work for a few years before going, too desparate to party
take the example of two people at my college
1 of them went to college knowing she was going to struggle for money, she had £6.00 per week after she paid all her bills to spend on anything sle she needed. but she made that decision to stick to that budget and managed to get through uni on it.
the 2nd went to college, had a row with her parents and as a result they wuld no longer support her. i dont know the ins and outs of this argument but it does appear to have been a genuine rift. she pleaded hardship and recieved help from the uni (fees waived etc.) but somehow she still found the money to drink several vodkas in the bar every night. that made me livid
my friends and i had antiball parties every year because we couldnt afford to go to the college ball. we used to have a £3.00 a head limit on food and for entertainment we'd do things like get a murder mystery game from oxfam for £2.00.. She went to the ball every year.
in conclusion: the world is injust we just have to deal,........... but hopefully she will be hit by a bus tomorrow.

thats a bad thing. but if the world is unjust, we cant just roll over and hope it goes away.

true, but we have to fins a balance between fighting injustice and actually living our lives. things are waaaaay better than they used to be, because other people have fought for what they believe in, we should try to appreciate what we do have
