Nreeahahhh!!! Scary people! We don't want nastiness and clubs with sticky-out nails. It's just not cricket!!

We don't want Krikket!! Only Cricket. Nice and pleasant and people in white trousers and clapping politely and beer... much nicer!

I hate it when my white trousers clap politely...

Your white trousers clap politely? I would ask them if they would kindly stop; it makes people nervous. Inanimate objects don;t normally do such a thing.

There's nothing inanimate about my socks
D'you know, that's something I haven't done for ages, sat in a pub beer garden and watched the local village cricket team. Probably one of the best ways to pass an afternoon invented by man. And it's a sport?!?

It's brilliant! I love it! And I'm female I suppose it doesn't really matter.

Something I've never done. I really ought to while I'm in this part of the world.

It's hard these days to find the ideal location. Ideal meaning village green with pub overlooking it.

Uncle Heavy [sic] Posted May 17, 2002
cricket is incredible dull. an afternoon session in the pub is too precious to waste on sluggish sports...

er, Unc, we've seen you drink remember?
And that's the beauty of village cricket, you sit outside the pub drinking, they provide the excuse. It's possibly the only spectator sport left where drinking is almost madatory.

Even test matches*, take along a picnic, nice bottle of wine - absolute bliss.
*Except in India, where they won't let you take anything into the ground - including food, drink (even water), mobile phones, cameras, pens....!

(If I'm not around for a while, that maybe why...)
