A Conversation for NUCLEAR POWER

Nuclear waste

Hello Mary Lou,I signed a petition to close Sellafield years ago.It didn't do much good,as you can see. We feel very annoyed about it in Ireland. We dont have any nuclear power plants here but are threatened by Sellafield, owned by another state and outside our control.Last years foot and mouth outbreaks in England could have been disastrous for the Irish economy. It was rampant in England but we curtailed it to one case over here.We thought the English govt.adopted a very lackadaisical approach to the problem. We feel they are doing the same at Sellafield. One accident and we could be facing a nuclear holocaust. We take a very skeptical view of the British govt.s assurances about the safety of the plant[I'm sure the same were handed out at Chernobyl].There have been health problems along the east coast of Ireland since the 60's and many people attribute this to the proximity of Sellafield. But as it's about money and political power I don't think it will close.Just one final point,if it's so safe profitable, why did no one else want the plant?
