My first car is still the one I really miss....a Mk2 Golf GTI (8 valve). It had a stereo that just about worked, no electric or assisted anything, but it went like the clappers and cornered fantastically.
And then some silly woman smashed into the back of it and wrote it off. I'd only had it 7 months! I was most upset, and hung onto it for 3 months after it got written off in the hope I could repair it.... 
In the end I just didn't have the facilities to do it and I needed to buy another car.

These things happen, though. The Saab I had afterwards was OK, and my Arosa is good for commuting but just too slow and understeery for enthusiastic driving. On the upside it's stupidly cheap to run, which as I'm saving up is more of a priority at the moment. Bah humbug!

we needc to look inot getting a cheapo banger as a second car as my other hal;f doesn't fancy biking it to work after before punted off the other day.

The boyfriend bought an Orion diesel for £500 with 129k on the clock, 10 months tax and 9 months MOT and ran it for 8 months up to 140k without any trouble, apart from making sure it had an oil change every 4k.
He sold it on, with 2 months tax and a months MOT for £80, too!

If you know what you're looking for with bangers then you can get some real bargains.
I first clapped eyes on it and declared it a shed 
, but after he sold it I was almost sad to see it go . (His previous car was a Ford Focus 2 litre - which he sold to put some money into his house!)
