Hi Rod I'll have a mooch around and if I get lost again I'll be pleased to find my own space (I found my own space in the pub today)
Peet I do apologise for calling you Pete I hope you're not too upset you see I initially read your name without looking at it if that makes sense, its late here and I can't think of an excuse
Cheers
suncage
Thank You

Hi Peet
suncage Posted Jul 29, 2002
What were you before that
I'm guessing it's either Pete or Peter
I was much happier before someone gave me a name and a lot happier choosing my own, so there's a bit of empathy for your name thing
Imagine my surprise when I joined up here and became a number, an ugly number to boot, it was'nt half as attractive as donnab's number

suncages,
Whew, finally booted back in OS 9.2.2 after having numerous unresolved kernal traps in OS X. Just another rock in the road...
My spare time has been spent trying to get X to run along with all my peripherals . Still no scanner, but everything else is working now.
You are welcome for asking Rod to thank me for thanking Peet and whatever else you said.
Donna

I was a "Peter", attempting to become a "Pete". I accidentally wrote my name on a form in school as "Peet", and a teacher said "That's very... individualistic..." - it was the longest word anyone had ever used to describe me, and the nicest thing any teacher had ever said to me. I stuck with it... (I was 14 then, I'm 40 now... )
Thank You

Hi suncages, apart from your own space at the pub, you should have one on h2g2. If you are using the greyey blue, plus yellow and orange "Alabaster" skin, you should find an orange "My Space" button, on each of the yellow bars. Clicking this takes you back to your own "space".
If, however, you are using the blue with squirling gloobs of grey fading to green "classic Goo" skin, you will find the link to "My Space" (by which I mean your space, not my space.) on the top of the list on the left hand side (just where a bit opf grey goes through blue and becomes green).
Clear as mud?
By the way, in some ways setting your preferences (which you also get to through an orange link on the yellow bar in Alabaster etc etc,) to "Single Page" instead of Frames also makes things easier in some ways.
There is another Bruce in charge of Logical Positivism , of course.
Cheers
Rod

Just a thought
If you are still in limbo regarding discussions than I could post your probs in OSX forum and relate them back to you if it's urgent
Thank You

I am too Peet, usually. (as you can see from my hideously framey website at http://www.netspace.net.au/~rodhagen I Must fix it up soon ). Here though, at 800x600 resolution on an imac screen , I find that with the amount of space taken up by the huge 'splash page at the top, and the frame on the left as well there is b#$$%@ all room left for anything else (like the thing I was trying to read). After playing around for a while I decided that it was easier /less confusing to have more screen and less "bits".
Probably depends a bit on your eyesight. Mine have had ten years more time to become long sighted than yours, so using 1024x768 & frames isn't all that much fun!
Cheers
Rod

Rod, I don't have a problem with that, specifically... When my eyesight started to go, I set myself up with dual 20" Sun monitors at 1280x1024 (on a PC...)

Alabaster with frames is tidy and it is more comprehensible, almost negotiable in my limited spacial awareness, and I have to say I'm grateful, but please tell me where's this frotting tree you mentioned, I'm in the orchard occaisionaly but can't see the tree

If you're in "advanced navigation" mode, it's the thing that resembles a pawnbroker's balls at the top right of every post... I've had it there since it was available, and I haven't figured out what it does yet...
Hi Peet

Peet, I loved the story of how you got your nickname.
I deliberately named my son "Eric" because I thought no one could make a nickname out of that. I was wrong. His friends all call him Kirby. It started way back when he was in 1st or 2nd grade when the Nintendo character, Kirby, was popular. Eric's cheeks got so pink when he was running around the playground that they all started calling him Kirby.
He's almost 15 now, and when I answer the phone they still ask, "May I speak with Kirby, please?"

Hi Donna
Don't know if the following might help with your Scanner issue?
http://www.info.apple.com/kbnum/n112634
Are you using the OSX1.5 update? I know that the earlier 1.3 improved the scanner compatability issue significantly.
There are quite a few updated drivers around for scanners and OSX too. What brand/model are you using?
Cheers

The pawnbroker thingy helps you move around within different strands of a thread, suncage. If you click on the ball immediately above this one, you should get back to your post saying Rod I've got it. If you click on one of the side red balls instead, then you will go to one of the other branches. If a ball is grey,m then there isn't anything there.
(Is that right Peet?)

Hi Donna There is a recognised problem with kernal panics occurring in OS X1.2 upwards and it seems to be USB related
There are no mentions of a solution other than to unplug usb devices
Rod I've got it

As far as I know, yes.
The point of having it there is if you encounter the following scenario...
The second-last posting on a page interests you. Two people answered it simultaneously. The last posting on the page has no replies...
In theory (although I'm too and lazy to check this out) one of the balls on the second-last post takes you to the first person to complete their reply, and another takes you to the next reply down the thread to that post. Others lead backwards... I may be verbalising bovine faeces here, but I blame the - if anybody can provide a definative answer in words of two sylables or less, there's a chance I may understand it.
Hi Peet
Rod Hagen Posted Jul 29, 2002
Mmm. Looks like links to outside sound grabs aren't popular here.
What I was saying, Donna, was that I still think you should call Eric, the half a bee.
La di di , one two three.... etc
Cheers
Rod
