I try to use rechargable batteries where possible; they don't do any more damage to the environment than a couple of equivalent sized dry cells, they last a *lot* longer before they find their way to the recycler/landfill, and they are *much* cheaper than dry cells, calculated over the life of the battery.
Because I tend to get a lot of scrap computer parts, I find that old laptop battery packs will generally split open to yield ten AA batteries each, of which eight are usually in good condition in the average "dead" battery pack.
Would you care to charge that, sir?

i have used rechargeables, but i stopped using batteries. what i need now is AAA recharges...

Hint: The cheap AA "Plug-type" rechargers also take AAA, and you can sometimes find them bundled with 4 x AA for about £2 more than the batteries would cost on their own. Either find a use for the 4 x AA, or sell them on to a friend who uses them to subsidise buying the charger. Look for one (like the silver plastic "Uniross") that takes both Ni-Cd and Ni-Mh batteries...
