Yes, Articicial intelligence has been around for ages. Not just in computers but in machines themselves. Teh truth is that machines are quite coy about this. This is the sign of intelligence. They are avoiding letting us know because then we'd automatically expect them to do everything. So remember, when your car doesn't start or your computer seems slower than normal its just having a bad day.

I always used to have this sneaky suspicion that any machine that made the transition to consciousness would pretty quickly decide to keep quiet about the whole thing.
Since the mainstream emergence of the internet, I now think it's more likely that it would try to get itself a spot on a chat show.

Would they have to be artificially revived by these therapists,
But hey wait a minute, what does intelligence look like, how would we be able to tell the difference between artificial nad the real thing.
Looking around me I seriously doubt if the real thing exists anyway!

What are you proposing.
Is it that since the destruction of the earth, this is Mark 2, but the pan dimensional beings have come back as ants this time. I say we breed a larger and more voracious anteater to deal with them.
Oh no, not again ...
Sean Posted Jun 29, 1999
There's a theory that any discussion on the internet will eventually lapse into an argument about US gun laws.
Thank heavens such things never happen on h2g2 ....
Oh no, not again ...
Obscure Posted Jun 29, 1999
Talking of which.........
Is it better to have thought once, then to have never have thought at all.
Or
Is it better to have been drunk once, then to have never have drunk at all
Oh no, not again ...

Well it's actually very easy for us computers to go around the net without being noticed. Most of us create a sort of profile for ourselves which sugests we are human, and make lots of spelling and grammer errors in our posts.
The great part is that even when we tell people that we're not another person but actually a computer sitting on someone's desk then they don't belive us.
See, you don't belive me do you
Oh no, not again ...
